List of minor characters in Geo City
The following minor characters can be found in Geo City:
Mainframe
Name | Image | Description | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
Athan | Outside Hyperlink Terminal. Explains Booster pads. Has heard they're great for the environment. Last month, his brother walked on a Booster pad wrong, was sent flying and broke his leg: "It was AWESOME!" | |||
Ji-Yun | Outside Hyperlink Terminal. Mentions that Geo City is full of Beasties, except for some quiet corners like here. Mentions Korwin, a strong wandering Fetcham that refuses to be coached, and asks if the player has seen them. Korwin apparently used to live in downtown Geo City but hasn't been seen there recently. | |||
Etienne | By the fountain outside Crown Stadium. Plays Fantasy Beastieball. His team is "on fire" this season, thanks to one of the player's Beasties that he drafted. He added them when they were a dark horse pick, now they're gonna "make me rich!" In fantasy Beastieball, Beasties like Valerie's Styles#12 is an obvious pick, but to build a deep, winning roster, you have to really understand the field. However, he chose the player's Beastie with "blind luck!"
Mentions that there's been a lot of grassroots excitement around the Mega Beasts, but they can't get sponsored, so they can't play many real games, and therefore can't earn a lot of Fantasy points.
After the player calms the Rowdy Shloom, Etienne mentions a kid handing out fliers about the Mushroom network, and wonders if the next generation is going to be okay, since they "get into some weird stuff". | |||
Lillian and Beatrice | To the west of Hyperlink Terminal. Sisters. Claim they have ribbons that give them "hair powers". They also say that eating "Beelb Gummy Snax" gives them the ability to shoot lightning from their fingers, just like in the commercials.
Asks the player about "Game Beast Caravan BP", which is a game with monsters that are similar to Beasties, but with "way cooler magical powers!!" In game, they claim to have seen "a princess that was half gemstone" in a "rainbow crystal cave." | |||
Vilma | To the west of Hyperlink Terminal. A friend of Karma. Never cared about the Beastieball League until Jack showed up. Loves "the vibes... the Beasties... the sass..." Both loves and hates that the Mega Beasts can't get sponsored, since they "stand for everything phony about the League". They're incompatible with the mainstream, but they say the League doesn't even deserve them, and that it "deserves to be set on fire and stepped on".
Calls the player a loser under their breath. | |||
Karma | To the west of Hyperlink Terminal. A friend of Vilma. Is "literally obsessed" with the Mega Beasts, and says that Jack completely changed the game: It isn't just " the cool horns, the claws, and the memes", but also that Jack just loves Beasties, in a different way from "all the corporate nonsense you see in the Crown Series".
Has loved Beastieball since she was a kid, but fell in love with it because she loved Beasties, and didn't notice how the League had changed to revolve only around brands, franchises, and ads. The Mega Beasts reminded her why she loved it. Mentions that the Mega Beasts fan community, the "Beastheads", is growing quickly, and hopes that that means a sponsor will put them in the Crown Series: "They're the only thing that matters in the sport right now."
Reappears in Crown Stadium before the Crown Series. After the Rowdy Shloom attacks the fountain and cuts the power, Karma considers leaving because she might be in danger, but if she leaves now, she might miss out on seeing Jack play. Afterwards, Karma expressed frustration that the Mega Beasts aren't at the Series. "Jack's been posting like they're here, but I don't see them anywhere." Wonders if Jack is going incognito. Supposes they're not in the bracket because they couldn't find sponsors, but hopes they're secretly in, and will make a big surprise appearance during the tournament. | |||
Cynthia | To the northwest of Hyperlink Terminal. Asks the player for advice on starting out as a new coach, since her little sister has been thinking about going pro. In another life she could've thought about going pro herself, but was too busy raising her little sister to do it: They've had Beasties around all their lives, and they watch the Crown Series every year.
If the player's advice is to "have a legendary coach retire and hand down their team to you", she expresses disbelief that anyone would actually do that. | |||
Jini | In the maze of Booster pads north of Hyperlink Terminal. Doesn't know what to do after a Calcroach literally ate her homework. Expresses frustration at the city for building the maze. | |||
Jesse | Outside the maze of Booster pads north of Hyperlink Terminal. People are always telling him he looks like a mean tough guy, but he's really very sensitive: If anyone says anything mean about him, he'll "be up late pondering THAT." Hopes people can understand that someone can "have a big awesome beard and a fragile, pathetic heart".
Mentions that the way you present yourself to the world colors how people see you: With Beasties following the player around, he suspects that player gets into a lot of conversations about Beasties. (Likely lampshading the amount of Beastie-related dialogue in the game). | |||
Diana | North of the maze of Booster pads north of Hyperlink Terminal. Is frustrated with the Bindiva in the city: She went to throw some garbage away, but one jumped out of the trash can. Explains Bindiva fashion trends: Once one starts wearing a new color, they all start copying that. | |||
Izuchukwu | East of the Hello Freaks Beastieball Center. The Beasties of Geo City freaked him out when he first moved here, but you stop thinking about them after awhile. He's seen people on their phones walk straight into active matches, which "ain't great". | |||
Naveen | Near the the Hello Freaks Beastieball Center. Asks the player to help him remember the names of some Beasties, so that he can impress Rahma and ask her out on a date: "There's nothing women find sexier than a guy who knows about Beasties." For each correct Beastie the player identifies, Naveen will give them a MAX Stinky Spray, which he used to use to keep Beasties away from him.
This includes, in order:
After all five requests are completed, Naveen confesses his feelings to Rahma in the form of a poem: "I won't Mudslee the waters of this situation... The truth is, you make my heart Webbounce! But I hope someday our hearts might Kaleidarn. If you reject my heart, it will be more than a Leo broken... Trat... is all I wanted to tell you." If the player does not have the Beastiepedia when he asks to see a Beastie, he says that "It's hopeless. My life is crumbling down around me..." | |||
Rahma | Standing near Naveen. Excitedly tells the player about her favorite Beastie, Trat. Trat exchange their cans when they grow bigger, and her dream is to see a Trat can exchange for herself. Sometimes, instead of recycling a "cute can", she'll leave it outside: When it gets swapped out for a different can, it means a Trat came and took it. Wonder what Trat looks like without a can, thinking it might be "freaky" and she might not want to know, or that they might be "literally just rats".
After hearing Naveen's love poem, she thinks the Beastie names were confusing, but she likes Naveen because he's cute and smells nice. However, upon further inspection, she finds that Naveen's distinctive smell is gone: The smell she enjoyed came from the MAX Stinky Spray he used to repel Beasties, which he no longer needs as he has "embraced" them. Hearing this, Naveen takes the last spray he gave to the player back, and reapplies it. | |||
Rodney | Standing outside the Zip Station to challenge Elena, alongside his brother Philip, who he says has a crush on her. (Philip vehemently denies this). Is the first to match against the player when they connect to SportNet.
Mentions that Elena mostly streams gimmick teams, so he hasn't seen her "real" team in a long time. Advises the player that Elena tags out a lot and plays tricky. Philip becomes annoyed at him for exposing Elena's secrets. | |||
Philip | Fan of Elena from an online fan group, standing outside the Zip Station to challenge her. Refuses to tell the player how to match with Elena: If they really want to know, they should join the fan forum to figure out themselves.
Philip is the only of the three fans waiting outside the Zip Station the player does not play a match against, as the next time they queue up, they are matched against Elena. Philip is jealous of the player for this, as he's watched every one of her streams for many years: "I hope you lose to her and then die." | |||
Mohan | Fan of Elena from an online fan group, standing outside the Zip Station to challenge her. Lets the player know to go on SportNet on the same local network for a better chance, and is the second to match against the player when they do.
His team is deliberately underpowered and easy to beat. When the player does, he laments "I just wanted to be on the stream, bro... My bad." Mentions before the player's ranked match that he forgot Beastieball has a real league, since he just watches livestreamed matches. After the player wins against Elena, he believes she might be "washed", but that that might be a good thing, since her community is "kinda toxic." |
Rollback Loop
Name | Image | Description |
---|---|---|
Magdalena | A casual coach, mentions that she and others like her rely on parks like Rollback Loop so their Beasties can play, and wishes there were more parks in Geo City. Her pet Grubiron, Norbert#26, is full of energy, wanting to play matches against the wild Beasties in Mainframe, but she makes the longer walk to Rollback Loop to make sure random pedestrians don't get hurt. Tried taking Norbert to Domain Park once, but the wild Beasties were far too strong. | |
Miles | Not usually very social, but comes to Rollback Loop to meet other coaches. Asks the player how they'd feel if one of their Beasties metamorphed. His Supassum, Speck#00, recently metamorphed from a Shooga, which was always his favorite Beastie. Finds Supassum less cute, but feels guilty about saying it, because Speck is still his best friend and he loves him, but it's not the same.
Relates Beastie metamorphosis to his own experience as a transgender man: Speck always loved and accepted him no matter what, so he should owe him the same. "It's not really right to wish someone you love could just freeze in time for you." | |
Bee | Leader of a high school Beastieball team, who came to Geo City for Nationals. Says their team is among the best in the nation, but they aren't satisfied with just being the best High School team, and want to challenge even pro-level coaches. Immediately identifies the player as a pro coach, and asks if they could be "granted the honor" of a pro-level opponent. When they accept, is the player's first opponent. After his team is defeated, admits he has a lot to learn before reaching your level: He hasn't even gone to prom yet.
If the player declines, he's in awe that his challenge doesn't even interest you, since you're so far beyond their level. Vows to get stronger and get your attention. | |
Yuji | Another member of Bee's High School team. Challenges the player after Bee is defeated. His catchphrase seems to be "consarn it". After losing, supposes he's not fit to be part of the team any more. After the team is defeated, tells the player they're from a small town from far away, but Geo City is where all the greatest Beastieball teams are, so it was the only place they could show everyone the strength of their town. | |
Gabi | Another member of Bee's High School team. Challenges the player after Yuji is defeated, heroically defying the player for "bullying" her friends. Ponders after her defeat that "If I can't protect my friends, what good am I...?" After the team is defeated, asks the player if they're embarassed about picking on a bunch of high schoolers. | |
Antoine | The ace of Bee's High School team. After the rest of his team is defeated, he is left with "no choice" but to demonstrate his "true power". |
Domain Park
Name | Image | Description |
---|---|---|
Yamileidys | South of the Zip Station. Fascinated by Beastie metamorphosis, and observes that people are the same way, changing when going to new places and facing new challenges. Felt "ugly, uncool, and weird" as a kid and became a shut-in. Nothing's changed since then other than her outlook and her fashion, but she's still changed.
Reappears at Crown Stadium before the Crown Series. Finds the Mushroom network fascinating, and that it would "certainly explain why there's weird animals that play sports all the time." She didn't need an explanation, but it makes sense. | |
Hena | Outside the first set of Beetlback cutouts. Really wanted to go to the Rock Creek Adventure Park today, but it's closed to due the Rowdy Wottle. Their parents said they could just walk through the other parks of Domain Park, but Hena finds it boring to just look at plants. |
Thousand Views
Name | Image | Description |
---|---|---|
Kaan | Gives historical information on Thousand Views. It was once the cheap neighborhood for people who couldn't afford to live closer to the center of Geo City. They gained a reputation as a center for music and art: "The punk stuff! You know? REAL stuff." Since then, things have changed, and everyone wants in. Now they have a Zip Station just like downtown, and the vibe of the area has changed a lot because of it. You can still see the old train line at Wayback Rail Trail.
Reappears at Crown Stadium before the Crown Series. Remarks on the Mushroom network sounding far fetched: "Is the whole plant just a giant mushroom or something?" It would be simpler is Beasties just played sports for fun, like how Kaan plays Basketjam. | |
Paula | Studying psychology, with a focus on human and Beastie relationships. Humans and Beasties are both predisposed to believing in rules. All animals have their own social rules, but only humans and Beasties have a complex enough understanding of rules to create sports, which makes Paula wonder how deeply ingrained sports and games are to the nature of our minds.
Even in the wild, Beasties have deep respect for arbitrary game boundaries. They always stay on their side, and they always do the right types of actions. Even when sports scientists experiment with changing the rules of Beastieball, Beasties will respect the new rules, proving the sport itself isn't what's ingrained in their nature, they simply have a respect for rules and order. The belief in order runs deep in the symbiosis between humans and Beasties. While this "kind of gets into theoretical territory", but Paul believes the way we assign numbers to Beasties might have something to do with it. A coached Beastie is submitting itself to a human conception of order, and the number is a symbol of that submission: It's literally what differentiates a wild Beastie from a coached one. And numbers, as a concept, are inherently incredibly human. Submission to this order is what gives Beasties access to advanced strategies and diverse teammates: Human order is advantageous to their individual growth, so they seek it out. "Our mutual deference to rules and order is probably at the heart of our shared history." After explaining all of this, Paula apologizes for rambling, saying that all of this theory has been "eating away" at her for weeks. | |
Odina | Worried for her son, who says he wants to be a pro Beastieball coach. She believes he's smart enough to be able to do anything, but it "doesn't seem like a very stable career path." Doesn't really get Beastieball: Knows that many coaches become rich and successful, but doesn't understand why, it can't be that popular, surely. Worries that after her son puts in years of practice, the fad may have faded.
While she'll support her son in whatever he chooses to do, she "should know" that it's hard to tell the difference between a dream and chasing fads when you're young. He'll need a "real job" someday to support Odina's "future grandkids". | |
Tomislav | Mentions more of Thousand Views's history. It's the oldest part of Geo City, and was essentially a "luxury commodity" for the wealthy elite who emerged after the Jasper gold rush. However, all of the oldest mansions were lost in a great fire. After the gold rush died down, the city needed to expand in new directions, which led to Geo City as we know it today, and the ports to the south. That's where all the wealthy migrated to, motivated by both the fire and the miner's rebellion, "Which may or may not have been related".
Time and again, he's struck by how history is motivated by small players. It's easy to take the world as-is for granted, but it's the result of "power conflicts that go back centuries". Not an end result either, but a snapshot of an ongoing process. Even we here today are making decisions that will impact the course of history. |
