Tag Out

From Beastiepedia: The Beastieball Wiki

This article is about the game mechanic. For the basic action by the same name, see Tag Out (Basic Action).

Tagging Out is how a Beastie leaves the field during a match, swapping places with a benched Beastie. Every tag out is paired with a tag in, where a Beastie from the bench takes the position of the tagged out Beastie.

The term applies to intentionally leaving the field (for example, using the Tag Out basic action or the Quick Tag support play), as well as being forced off the field (by Cyclone, Tornadoball, etc).

Effects

Tagging out moves a beastie from the active field to the bench. A tagged out beastie is replace by another from the bench (tagging in).

Benched

In most cases, benched beasties don't participate in the activities of each turn, except as related to tagging in and out.

Beasties on the bench slowly recover from WIPED; on the other hand, only Beasties active on the field will be affected by SWEATY (losing stamina).

Tagging out

  • Tagging out can occur intentionally by using the TAG OUT basic action (during defense). They can also be tagged out as a secondary effect of plays like Quick Tag, Torch Pass, High Five, etc.
    • When intentionally tagging out, the coach can select the beastie being tagged in to replace them.
  • Tornadoball and Cyclone can force opponent Beasties to tag out.
    • When forced to tag out, the replacement beastie is chosen automatically.
  • When a Beastie is tagged out, all Boosts on that Beastie are cleared.
  • Beasties that are NERVOUS (can't move) cannot tag out.
  • Beasties that are ANGRY (only attacks), TIRED (only basic actions) or WIPED can still choose the basic action TAG OUT.
  • Tractor Beam prevents the nearest non-Wiped opponent on the field (shown visually as caught in the beam) from tagging out.
  • Becoming WIPED overrides NERVOUS (can't move), and Tractor Beam stops targeting Wiped beasties, so Wiped beasties are able to tag out using the basic action.

This article is in need of further research.

Nervous beasties can't Tag Out (basic action). What happens when they pick a move where tagging out is part of the effect (e.g. Torch Pass, High Five)? Does the move partially proc, just excepting the tag out part—like how Net Rush will still volley but fail to Shift the beastie if they're Nervous?

Tagging in

  • The Beastie that tags in will be in the same position on the field as the one that tagged out (both lane and row)
  • The Beastie that tags in will be hurt if there are any Traps on the field; this also decreases the number of traps by 1.
  • Certain Traits have an effect upon tagging in (for example, Majesty lowers both opponents' Spirit POW).
  • During the first turn following a tag-in, certain plays and traits may apply special effects (e.g. Dive or Crawlurk's Ambush trait).
